Ultrasound: On Monday morning, J and I went to the hospital for an 8am appt. I tried to drink 32 oz. of water an hour prior to the appointment, but I was drinking water up until 7:30. The sonographer quickly did the anatomy scan and everything was accounted for. The baby is developing normally and she is right on track. I teared up during the scan as we saw her face, heart, kidneys, limbs, and her cute little feet! The sonographer finished measuring everything and said I could relieve myself. She discussed the results with the doctor and I have placenta previa so another ultrasound is scheduled in July. Doc said it's normal and it should correct itself as the baby grows. I'm glad I'll be able to see my baby again and hope all will be ok. While the sonographer was out of the room, I gave permission for a student to practice on me, which took a while. When she returned, I asked about the baby's gender and she forgot to check. The baby's legs were crossed for a few seconds, then she let us peek. I was so happy because I had a feeling we were having a girl. She'll be daddy's little girl and J's happy too!
Cake: Soon after we found out the gender, I placed an order for a raspberry filled cake my in-laws would cut. My parents were away on vacation and I avoided their calls all day because I have my reasons for wanting my in-laws to know the gender first. After eating dinner, J got the cake ready. Just before my in-laws were about to cut into the cake, my dad called their house to find out. My MIL said she didn't know yet, was about to cut into the cake, and she'd call him back right away so to keep his phone nearby. LOL! They quickly cut into the cake and everyone was happy, but the grandfathers were hoping for a boy. It's cultural. Anyways, it was a fun way for them to find out they're having a granddaughter. :)
On Tuesday night, we brought pizza and cupcakes to my SIL's place to reveal the gender to our nephews. We did the same thing with cupcakes and it was fun! C isn't convinced that he's having a girl cousin and thinks we're having a boy. J's prediction of a girl was correct and he seems excited to have a girl in the family. C said he didn't know how to play with girl toys, but we reassured him that he can teach her how to play with his toys.
Total Weight Loss/Gain: Ignorance is bliss!
Sleep: Waking up with pillows everywhere.
Movement: Still waiting :) During the ultrasound, baby girl was moving around a lot, but I couldn't feel it. My tech said I would most likely feel something in 2 weeks.
Cravings/Aversions: No particular cravings. No aversions :)
Symptoms: I feel great and have energy! Feeling bloated and swollen, esp. on hot days. Some veins are protruding out around my wrist.
Nesting: We're finally able to get the nursery in order! The room is painted a light lavender color with hand painted murals of flowers, ladybugs, and butterflies from the previous owner. In our 5 years of TTC, we never painted over it and should have. But, the room haunts me no longer because we're finally able to use it! During my 3 day bed rest after the transfer, we decided to sleep in the nursery and soon our little girl will enjoy it.
What I look forward to: I looked forward to my prenatal yoga class tonight, but I locked myself out of the house! Thankfully, my neighbor friend was home and we spent the afternoon chatting until my brother could pick me up after work so I could get the spare key. So, I look forward to prenatal yoga next week!
Milestones: According to babycenter.com, our baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear my voice now. My baby measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.
